Superstar Aamir Khan had recently announced that his next project is an official adaptation of Tom Hanks’ classic Forrest Gump. The remake is tentatively titled Lal Singh Chaddha and will be directed by Advait Chandan (Secret Superstar fame). Aamir made the announcement during a press meet on his birthday, where he added that he will be undergoing a physical transformation for the role as well.
Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis, released in 1994 and went on to win six Oscars, including best picture, best director and best actor for Hanks. The film, based on Winston Groom’s 1986 novel of the same name, follows Forrest Gump, a dim-witted man from Alabama, who witnesses and unwittingly influences several historical events in 20th century USA. Aamir said the makers are yet to lock the cast for the film.
Aamir, who was supposed to begin work on Mahabharata and Mogul, has kept these projects aside. His main focus now remains the Forrest Grump remake. The film will be produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions. The prep work for the film has begun and it is expected to start shoot in October. The character of Forrest Gump is very similar to Aamir’s role in Rajkumar Hirani’s PK. So this might just work out well for him.
